Relive your ‘80s

Wish you could go back in time to dance to your favourite alternative ‘80s music at a club again? Well we've got you sorted.

The Garage 96.1 and Sanctuary Events have teamed up to give you Dark Disco, a night where you can dance to your favourite post-punk, new wave, goth, indie and synth music. Check out the event on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/events/2454873904740666/

We had a chat with Wade Byers, the creator of Sanctuary Events, and he has never felt a deeper connection with any other genre or decade than the alternative ‘80s. The Cure, Joy Division, New Order and The Smiths are just some of his favourite bands from that time. In fact, he’s even in a Joy Divison cover band.

Wade began hosting ‘80s events when he realised nobody was tapping into a market of music lovers that definitely existed (you’re probably one of them!). He loves the feeling of bringing memories back from being a teenager or early twenties. Wade was “a bit of a goth” himself back in the ‘80s. “When I did have my hair I had it all teased up. I’d wear black and makeup and stuff… It was sort of frowned upon but we didn’t care. It was just hard work wearing a leather jacket on the beach in summer cause it got so hot”. He adored his leather jacket and doc martins.

Check out the below video to hear Wade chatting about his love of the Manchester sound, and his experience when he did the Manchester tour. And don’t forget the date - June 8th - Dark Disco, at the Dark Room.
